Spouses of active-duty Coast Guard military members are exempt from the President’s return to in office work directive and may continue to work remotely, under the provisions of Title 5 U.S.C. § 3330d and according to guidance from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
These provisions also apply to spouses of service members who are deceased or spouses of former members of the Armed Services who are 100 percent disabled. Additionally, spouses of foreign service officers may continue to work remotely.
In order to qualify as a military spouse, you must be currently married to an active-duty military member, married to a disabled member with a 100% disability, or married to a deceased member at the time of death and not remarried.
Military spouses who don’t currently have a remote work arrangement can apply to work remotely if their position is portable and eligible for remote work. Roles involving classified information, law enforcement duties, search and rescue, or trades are typically not eligible for remote work.
