Turning our focus to Respect

By AJ Pulkkinen, MyCG writer

Welcome to Respect Week, where we’re continuing the conversation on Core Values and Service Culture. This week we have six new activities to stimulate thought and discussions across the Coast Guard on what Respect means to you. If you’ve missed earlier articles and activities, no worries! The Core Values website has previous articles, engagement activities, contest announcements, and more!

Respect is comprised of three groups: Respect for People, Foster Belonging and Community, Protect and Care for Others.

We’ve received over three hundred responses to the activities already. But we need to hear from you. What do YOU think? This is OUR Coast Guard, OUR Service Culture, and OUR Core Values. Please take time out of your busy day to join in on the conversation here

We will refine our understanding of our Core Value as we go. Using your input, we will finalize the updated definitions this winter. The final Core Values Model will be included in the Enlisted Performance Qualifications, as well as the Enlisted and Officer Evaluation Systems. The updated model will also be incorporated into all Coast Guard leadership courses.

This is our generational opportunity to create the culture that we want and that we deserve – at every unit and for every person.

Next week we’ll turn our focus to the Core Value of Devotion to Duty.
