Honoring our heroes: Celebrate Veterans Day with DHS

By Erin Wilkerson

As we approach Veterans Day, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas invites all personnel to join in a special celebration of our nation’s heroes. This year’s Veterans Day program is designed not just as a ceremonial event, but as a powerful reminder of the enduring courage, sacrifice, and commitment of the brave men and women who have served our country. Their legacy is one of loyalty, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to protecting the values we hold most dear—freedom, security, and justice.

The theme of this year’s program, A Legacy of Loyalty and Service, perfectly encapsulates the enduring commitment of our veterans and the vital role they play in shaping the future of our nation. As a key component of the Department of Homeland Security, we recognize that many of our personnel—both past and present—have served in various branches of the military. Their dedication to protecting our country both on and off the battlefield continues to be a cornerstone of our mission today.

Event Details

The Veterans Day event will feature leadership remarks from Secretary Mayorkas and Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan. The day’s events also include musical performances and guest speaker, Lt. General Gina Grosso (Air Force Retired).

A Day to Reflect, Remember, and Reaffirm Our Commitment

While the men and women we honor on Veterans Day may no longer be in uniform, their legacy lives on through the work we do every day. Their commitment to service continues to inspire us, driving us to push forward, support our communities, and stand ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

All available personnel are encouraged to participate in this meaningful event and join us in honoring the service and sacrifices of our veterans. Whether you have served or are part of the wider DHS community, this is an opportunity to come together and demonstrate our shared gratitude.
