Rear Adm. Tiffany Danko, Assistant Commandant for Reserve, authorized the expansion of the Reserve Inactive Duty Training - Travel Reimbursement Program (IDT-TRP) to eligible E6 & below Selected Reserve (SELRES) members!
Commands, senior leaders, and reservists should communicate and encourage early enrollment and participation in the reimbursement program. After enrolling in IDT-TRP, qualifying members will be able to submit reimbursement claims for costs incurred as a result of travel to their duty station. The program authorizes reimbursement for up to 12 drill weekends (i.e. 12 roundtrips) and the max reimbursement authorized for each roundtrip is $500. IDT travel reimbursement is often confused with a travel stipend; however, members will be reimbursed for actual costs.
Eligibility
FY25 IDT-TRP participation is available to all E-6 and below SELRES members who meet all of the following criteria:
- Must have a Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC) in good standing and ensure the GTCC is loaded into the E-Gov Travel System (ETS) user profile. Members without a GTCC are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible and submit a request for authorization prior to the deadline.
- The member's assigned duty station must be located 150 miles or more, one way, from their primary residence, as recorded in Direct Access, and as calculated by the Defense Table of Official Distances (DTOD) using the Permanent Change of Station/Temporary Duty route type.
- Must be a drilling reservist with satisfactory participation during the previous FY. This requirement shall not prohibit new reservists, within 6 months from accession, from applying with Command approval.
Enrollment Deadline
Now that enrollment is open to all eligible members E-6 and below, it is important to determine your eligibility and enroll as soon as possible. The enrollment period for all members will continue until December 2, 2024. The IDT-TRP program managers understand that circumstances may limit members’ timely enrollment. Individuals that meet the following criteria may enroll past the deadline with their Command representative’s approval:
- New reservists within 6 months of their accession date.
- Members on approved maternity leave for the duration of the enrollment period.
- Members returning to a "drilling status" after short-term Active Duty for Operational Support (ADOS) orders that spanned the duration of the enrollment period.
Members who are under circumstances that fall outside of these exceptions but still desire to enroll should coordinate through their Command representative to request a waiver from COMDT (CG-R82) by emailing IDTTravel@uscg.mil for approval.

Program Expansion
While the program welcomes feedback to make improvements to processes and procedures, there are no planned expansions to IDT-TRP eligibility in FY25. The growth of the program is greatly dependent on funding availability and member participation. In FY24, almost 300 members were approved for reimbursement with $170,000 in funds being dispersed to qualifying members.
“The IDT Travel Reimbursement Program is a benefit that bears witness to the commitment of our Reserve members that commute long distances for duty and advances benefits parity with our DoD counterparts. We are continually seeking ways to expand this benefit to more members within the limits of funding and the Joint Travel Regulations,” said Cmdr. Pamela Madjeska, IDT Travel Reimbursement Program Manager.
Questions about IDT-TRP should be directed to the Reserve Resource Management Division (CG-R82) at IDTTravel@uscg.mil.
