Enlisted reservists — education scholarships are now available for you or your dependents

By Keisha Reynolds, MyCG Staff Writer

The Coast Guard Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for enlisted Coast Guard reservists or their eligible dependents through August 15.

The eight $1,000 awards will cover tuition, fees, or other education expenses for those enrolled in or accepted by an accredited degree granting institution, or a technical or vocational training school for the 2024-2025 academic year.

“The Coast Guard Foundation is pleased to partner with the Assistant Commandant for Reserve (CG-R) to identify and provide scholarships to reservist families that may be in need of additional support,” said Sage Williams, program manager for the Coast Guard Foundation.

“Reservists are an important part of our Coast Guard community and helping them further their education and training, or that of their dependents, is part of our core mission.”

Applicants must meet the following requirements to apply for one of the awards, specifically they must:

  • Be pursuing their first associate, bachelor, master or doctoral degree or technical or vocational certificate.
  • Write and submit a one-page cover letter attesting to the applicant’s ability to meet edibility requirements; dependents must have their sponsors sign the letter. It must include contact phone numbers, a mailing address and email addresses of both the applicant and sponsor, if applicable.
  • Maintain a minimum grade-point average -by the attending institution.
  • Provide a typed, one-page essay describing an accomplishment the applicant is proud of and how their experience with the Coast Guard Reserve has inspired or enabled that accomplishment.
  • Include an official transcript that must be received no later than 15 August 2024; incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.

Enlisted Reservist members are defined as Selected Reserve or Individual Ready Reserve, with an enlisted contract valid through Dec. 31, 2024. Dependents are required to be registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) under their Coast Guard sponsor.

The Coast Guard Foundation will announce scholarship winners in September via an ALCOAST. Additional scholarship information can be found at: https://coastguardfoundation.org/scholarships/. Direct questions can be sent to ReserveScholarships@uscg.mil.
