Civilian employees, take the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) now! The Coast Guard wants to hear what you think. Don't miss your chance to provide valuable feedback—and receive four hours of bonus administrative leave!
What is the FEVS, and how I can I complete it?
The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) annual government-wide FEVS launched on May 21 and will close on July 5, 2024. The survey is open to all permanent and non-permanent employees, non-political appointee Coast Guard employees who onboarded by November 2023 and have a valid CG email address (.mil or uscg.edu). Unfortunately, non-appropriated funding (NAF) employees and contractors are ineligible to take the FEVS.
The survey has been sent to all eligible employees’ government email accounts. You’re encouraged to take the survey during work hours; the Office of Civilian Human Resources (CG-124) encourages supervisors to set aside time for their teams to take the survey during the workday. The survey only takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.
If you missed the initial email from OPM, don’t worry! The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will send weekly reminders during the survey period. As each survey link is personalized, do not share your link with anyone. However, you may forward your own link to your personal e-mail to complete the survey on a personal device.
Why does it matter?
The FEVS is the only large-scale survey of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) civilian employee satisfaction and engagement. FEVS results are used for benchmarking across DHS and the federal government. The survey provides essential feedback, identifies employee concerns, and gives DHS and Coast Guard leadership directions for further inquiry.
Your feedback leads to real change. Increased workplace flexibility, improved training, and the Coast Guard mentoring program all exist thanks to your FEVS feedback.
Another survey?
We know there are a lot of different surveys you are asked to take each year, and some of the questions or topics are repetitive. Most surveys, like the FEVS, Organizational Assessment Survey (OAS), or Defense Equal Opportunity Climate Survey (DEOCS), target different aspects of your employee experience. A team is looking into the number and types of surveys administered across Coast Guard and how we can do a better job looking at all the data together for themes, ultimately leading to meaningful action plans with increased communication back to the workforce.
As a token of the Coast Guard’s appreciation, everyone who completes the survey will receive four extra hours of bonus administrative leave.
Are my answers confidential?
As always, the survey is confidential. No individual responses will be provided to DHS or Coast Guard, and the data received is aggregated to ensure anonymity.
What if I didn’t get a survey?
First, don’t forget to check your junk mail folder and search your email for subject: “2024 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey” or sender: Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey-HS or EVHS@opm.gov. Still having issues? If you were an eligible employee as of November 2023 with a valid Coast Guard email address, please complete this form.
What if I have questions or need help?
If you have any technical difficulties with the survey, you should reply to the original email from OPM or contact evhs@opm.gov.
How do I use the authorized administrative leave?
