Best Places to Work: The Coast Guard’s 13th District

By Lt. Stephen Nolan, public affairs officer, 13th Coast Guard District

Seattle is the heart of the 13th Coast Guard District, and it is one of the Coast Guard's best places to work! Check out this video about us and read on to learn more about why members love working here.

What we do: In Seattle our crews support missions locally and internationally. Pacific Area (PACAREA) assets in the region deploy worldwide including to the Arctic and Antarctic. Locally, we serve the citizens of the Puget Sound, securing a 143 mile-long international border, safeguarding maritime commerce, and responding to search and rescue cases in some of the roughest waters in the nation!

Why it's fulfilling: The Coast Guard crews in the Pacific Northwest are some of the best in the nation. Every day our team of dedicated professionals work hand-in-hand with industry, state, and federal partners in a rapidly growing seagoing city.

Why you should work here: Our crews work in some of the most gorgeous waters in the United States. A tour in the Pacific Northwest is unrivaled in the scope of missions, friendliness of the people, and beauty of the surrounding area. Our missions directly impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in one of America’s largest cities.

What we do for fun: Hike, bike, ski, and explore! If you love easy access to some of the most scenic locations in the country, then this is the place for you!

The best kept secret: While Seattle may be a big city, we’re just a short trip from three national parks, amazing skiing and, (of course!) great boating. If you want the best of both worlds – city life and natural beauty, then search no farther!
