Here’s what’s new for the second Year of the Excellence in Customer Service Awards

By Lori Pastro, Communications Specialist, Mission Support Integration Office

The calendar year 2021 Customer Service Awards were hugely successful, highlighting great support happening across the Coast Guard. As we approach the 2022 award deadline, the Deputy Commandant for Mission Support wants to encourage ANYONE to submit a nomination. This is an opportunity for the operational community to recognize and further encourage excellent support, as well as for people within the Mission Support workforce to recognize units, teams, and staff members.

“Investing in customer service is particularly important because our customers are also key team members who participate in the completion of their projects,” said Cmdr. Jay Kime, who commands the In-Service Vessel Sustainment (ISVS) Project Resident Office (PRO) in Baltimore. Last year, his unit won the small unit award. “We are blessed with a fantastic network of partners and empowered to expand our view across organizational lines, taking measured risks to deliver the best possible product and overall experience for our customers. The Excellence in Customer Service Award celebrates our customer-focused approach,” he added.

To initiate a nomination, Mission Support commanding officers or staff elements should route a nomination memorandum through the first flag in their chain of command for approval. Operational units or individuals who received exceptional mission support in 2022 are highly encouraged to submit their recommendations, and can do so directly, without flag-level endorsement.

Please submit the required nomination memo, endorsement letters, and any other supporting documents in one pdf file to make it easier for board members to review packages. See ALCOAST 480/22 for revised guidelines on formatting and page length.

The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m., Feb. 28, so prepare your nomination packages now and submit them as soon as possible to DCMScontent@uscg.mil. Award winners will be notified later this spring, and an ALCOAST will be published with names of award-winning units, teams, and individuals.
