Special Duty Pay updates announced

The Coast Guard has updated the fiscal year 2023 (FY23) Special Duty Pay and Assignment Pay (SDP/AP) list.  The revisions are included below:  

One SDP authorization has been added: 

  • Precision Marksman-Aviation (PM-A) HITRON/ATC - Member must be assigned to a deployable billet, with the unit commanding officer designating the members in writing and be fully qualified. 

Four SDP authorizations have been updated for clarification, as follows: 

  • Aviation Survival Technician Instructors has been updated to eliminate the limitation to Aviation Technical Training Center (ATTC) and is replaced with: "Aviation Survival Technician (AST) Instructors. Members assigned as AST A-school instructors at Training Center (TRACEN) Petaluma, California or ATTC who are fully qualified as an instructor. Instructors must maintain currency qualifications in order to maintain SDP eligibility. SDP stops upon lapse of qualifications or qualification currency.  
  • Independent Duty Food Service Officer (IDFSO) is updated to correct the eligible cutter classes and is replaced with: " Cutters Classes: WLM, WLIC, WLI, WLR, WTGB, WPB, WPC. Culinary specialists (CS) assigned to an eligible cutter class, designated as the food services officer, and using the Purchases vs Allowance Inventory (PVA) system are authorized SDP effective Oct. 1, 2022, or upon report date, whichever is later. The member must acquire the CS-17 competency code within one year of authorized SDP date. If the member does not acquire the CS-17 competency code within one year of authorized SDP date, SDP will be suspended until the CS-17 competency code is authorized by the CS rating force master chief."  
  • Food Service Officer (FSO) is updated to correct the eligible cutter classes and is replaced with: WLB, WAGB, WLBB, WMSL, WMSM, WMEC, WIX. CS personnel assigned to an eligible cutter class, designated as the FSO, and using the Perpetual Inventory (PI) system, are authorized SDP effective Oct. 1, 2022, or upon report date, whichever is later. The member must acquire the CS-18 competency code within one year of authorized SDP date. If the member does not acquire the CS-18 competency code within one year of authorized SDP date, SDP will be suspended until the CS-18 competency code is authorized by the CS rating force master chief."  
  • Port Security Unit (PSU) tactical coxswain – updated to eliminate the limitation to active duty members. Specifically, tactical coxswains must be assigned to a PSU and routinely serve in the unit's rotational watch schedule as a certified operational tactical coxswain. Members must complete Tactical PQS, and be certified by the commanding officer as a tactical coxswain. Tactical coxswains augmenting a PSU must be on Title 10 Orders (10 USC 12302 or 10 USC 12301(d)) in support of a contingency, and deployed with a PSU, in order to qualify for SDP.
