WATCH: Women’s Equality Day observance, featuring Jamille Bigio.

By Annie Sheehan, MyCG writer

Women’s Equality Day is a federally recognized observance on Aug. 26 that commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote.

To celebrate Women’s Equality Day, Jamille Bigio will be joining us via Teams this Aug. 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., Eastern. She will discuss her career as a preeminent advocate for women, equity, and inclusion.

Bigio is the senior coordinator for Gender and Women’s Empowerment at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in which she works tirelessly for gender equality, national security, and global prosperity.

She served in numerous leadership positions in governmental agencies, including the White House National Security Council, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, among others.

Bigio was recognized with the U.S. Department of State Superior Honor Award and the U.S. Department of Defense Secretary of Defense Honor Award for her work launching the U.S. government’s first National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security.

Additionally, she is a decorated scholar who graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School and the University of Maryland.

This talk is open to the entire Coast Guard workforce. Details to log into Teams are listed below. Please join us for an afternoon to reflect on the continued fight for equality and recognize the milestones achieved by women in both the civilian and military sectors.
