The Coast Guard has released the Commandant’s Intent which shares her vision and priorities to guide the Service’s efforts to:
- transform our total workforce
- sharpen our competitive edge, and
- advance our mission excellence
The Commandant’s Intent identifies drivers of change that have reshaped the operational environment and created new opportunities and challenges for the future of our service. The three tenets and 13 priorities are intended to help the service navigate the global competition for talent, keep pace with the changing maritime domain, and innovate how we recruit, train and retain our workforce and assets for maximum effect.
Commandant of the Coast Guard Adm. Linda Fagan outlined these lines of effort in early June during the Commandant Change of Command ceremony at Coast Guard Headquarters.
“Tomorrow looks different. So will we.” Fagan explained during her remarks, “We will be a more adaptive and connected Coast Guard that generates sustained readiness, resilience, and capability in new ways to enhance our nation’s maritime safety, security, and prosperity.” Both Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and President of the United States, Joe Biden attended the historic ceremony.
