It’s expert tax guidance without a cost to you!

By Keisha Reynolds, MyCG Writer

If you are preparing to file your taxes, or planning ahead for next tax season, you don’t want to miss this Wellness Wednesday discussion. There are experts on-hand to guide you as you plan for your taxes—and it’s all free.

Today’s Wellness Wednesday discussion will be led by Coast Guard Personal Financial Managers Kenneth Hall, from Base Boston, Kathryn Seymour, from Base National Capital Region, and Laura Donohue CG SUPRT Senior Money Coach and certified public accountant (CPA). They will discuss how to prepare for tax changes, some of the provisions of the American Rescue Act such as Economic Impact payments, Advanced Child Tax Credit, and more. The Tax Presentation and question and answer session will happen at 3 p.m. Eastern today on CG Teams

“Tax rules can be complicated, but taking some time to know and use them for your benefit can change how much you end up paying or getting back in a refund when you file,” said Seymour.

For example, Donohue recommended an effective action all members may take that could be beneficial. “Good tax planning includes updating your W-4 periodically. This results in breaking even at tax time and gives you the use of your money throughout the year.”

It is also important to note that CG SUPRT offers free online tax filing through H&R Block. You may be able to file your taxes free through H&R Block by logging into their website. You must go directly through the CG SUPRT site in order for your online tax filing to be free.

Hall said, “The U.S. Coast Guard has invested a lot of time and money into financial programs and resources for Coast Guard [members] and their families. I’m hoping this Wellness Wednesday has a positive impact on the attendees and that they will [use] the financial resources and programs offered by the U.S Coast Guard.”

CG SUPRT also provides free, confidential, and professional consultations for taxes and other financial matters, as well as personal money coaching to help you reach your financial goals.
