The Coast Guard kicks off National Safe Boating Week 2021: The Coast Guard’s Seventh District reminds boaters to be safe on the water May 21-30, during National Safe Boating Week (NSBW) and Memorial Day weekend. Coast Guard crews, along with local and state law enforcement agencies, will be patrolling, conducting safety checks, and ensuring mariners are staying safe. NBSW helps raise boating safety awareness and places an emphasis on how life jackets save lives. If a boater is wearing one, his or her chances of survival from capsizing or a fall overboard will dramatically increase. The Coast Guard urges cold water safety following May fatalities: The Coast Guard’s Frist District warned the public about the cold-water hazards May 20, following five deaths within the month. New London’s Coast Guard City designation to be renewed: The Coast Guard , formally renewed  New London, Connecticut’s designation as a Coast Guard City, May 20, honoring the city for a second time with this designation. The honor, bestowed by the Commandant of the Coast Guard with approval from Congress, recognizes New London’s longstanding efforts to embrace Coast Guard members and their families stationed in New London during their tour of duty. “The New London community puts forth tremendous effort to support our Coast Guard,” said Adm. Karl Schultz, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. “By embracing Coast Guardsmen and their families, the New London Community fosters morale and contributes to service excellence.” Learn more.

Coast Guard, Navy, Marines, and Air Force conduct search and rescue exercise: Multiple agencies participated in a joint-service search and rescue exercise off Cape Lookout, North Carolina, May 18, testing communication capabilities in the event of a joint-service response. “We always look forward to opportunities that highlight our multi-agency partnerships, and this outstanding exercise only further underscored the value of our relationships with our partners," said Capt. Timothy Eason, chief of response for the Coast Guard’s Fifth District. The exercise allows participants to test and provide realistic feedback on existing policies, plans, procedures, and agreements with the Coast Guard and partner Department of Defense units.
