U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Munro seizes approximately $330 million in cocaine, marijuana: The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Munro (WMSL 755) is scheduled to offload approximately 8,200 pounds of seized cocaine and 11,450 pounds of marijuana March 23, 2021, at the ship’s homeport of Coast Guard Base Alameda, California. Working with the U.S. Navy, the crew seized the drugs, worth an estimated $330 million, during 15 vessel interdictions off the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America. The fight against drug cartels in the Eastern Pacific Ocean requires unity of effort in all phases from detection, monitoring, and interdictions, to criminal prosecutions by international partners and U.S. Attorneys’ offices in districts across the nation. TRACEN Petaluma names Yeoman, Storekeeper “A” school building for Arnold Palmer: Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma will rename a training wing after professional golfer, Arnold Palmer. Palmer served with distinction as a yeoman in the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1953 and worked for the Ninth Coast Guard District in Cleveland, Ohio. He reportedly joined to overcome the emotional trauma caused by a friend’s fatal car crash. “My dad said that the U.S. Coast Guard made him a better person for the world,” said his daughter, Amy Palmer Saunders, in a press release. “He would be touched to know that others will be given the same opportunity to learn and grow in a space named for him.” The yeoman and storekeeper “A” School wing at the Juliet Nichols Building will be renamed in a ceremony later this year. Welcome home U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Northland: On March 22, 2021, the Coast Guard Cutter Northland returned home to Portsmouth, Virginia, from a patrol in the Gulf of Mexico supporting the Eighth Coast Guard District. During the patrol, the crew of the Cutter Northland conducted daily law enforcement boardings and patrolled the waters for any illegal fishing boats or gear to ensure fair, safe, and sustainable practices. The Northland is a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter that routinely deploys in support of counter-drug, alien migrant interdiction, fisheries, search and rescue, and homeland security missions. USCG and Navy medevac ill mariner: The Coast Guard and Navy combined efforts to medevac an ill mariner to Bermuda March 19, 2021. Rescue Coordination Center Bermuda notified watch standers at the Coast Guard’s Fifth District command center in Portsmouth of an ailing crewmember aboard the tanker ship Antonis. Learn more.

Sector Mobile supports grounded vessel: In New Orleans, watchstanders from Sector Mobile received a report that a pleasure craft with five people aboard had lost power and ran aground on Chandeleur Islands. An Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-133 Ocean Sentry airplane crew arrived on scene. The helicopter landed on the island, took two people from the vessel and passed a VHF-FM radio to the remaining boaters. There were no reported injuries. Learn more. Click here to view the video
