Boatswain's Mate
A small boat crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton conducts a safety patrol near the cutter while underway in the Pacific Ocean, Aug. 14, 2012. Boatswain's mates (BM) are capable of performing almost any task in connection with deck maintenance, small boat operations, navigation, and supervising all personnel assigned to a ship's deck force or shore unit, and are in charge of the newest Coast Guard small boats while conducting search and rescue, aids to navigation, law enforcement and security operations.
